Community, Education, Young People
A world where diversity is celebrated.
For nearly two decades, Shawn Andrews has been at the forefront of education, specialising in outdoor education programs, international initiatives, and educational reform. At the heart of his efforts was Indigicate, a pioneering enterprise dedicated to transforming the narrative around Indigenous Education through outdoor learning and school camps. Indigicate achieved remarkable success, collaborating with over 35 schools and enriching the lives of more than 20,000 young individuals across six countries. However, the unforeseen challenges brought on by the COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne led to the difficult decision to close the business in 2022, after nine fruitful years.
During his tenure at Indigicate, Shawn developed a deep connection with Indigenous youth living in care, creating and leading cultural camps, cross-cultural exchanges, and urban adventures. Notably, he facilitated memorable experiences, including four consecutive years of leading small groups to an international children’s conference in Caux, Switzerland, fostering a cross-cultural exchange with Samoa, and launching an Indigenous STEM program.
Shawn's dedication to fostering Indigenous success is evident in his numerous roles as an advisor, mediator, and leader. In 2021, he played a crucial role as the truth-telling mediator for Indigenous Communities in collaborations with the government. An active member of his native title group, Shawn has also served in various advisory capacities to the government. Currently, his focus has shifted towards fostering Indigenous to Indigenous international trade. For a closer look at his current projects in this arena, visit the business section of this website.
One of Shawn’s biggest passions is the charity he established call Dreaming Futures. Dreaming Futures exists to provide better outcomes for Indigenous young people in care. Click the logo to find out more, or to donate.
